Keyframe Animation with Symbols

Ij this project, we are going to learn more about the principals of animation. There is a short video that I would like you to watch as a homework assignment. We will use your Lynda.com account to do this. Click on this link: Animation Course and then log in with your Lynda.com account.

In this project, you will learn how to do what is called the "Classic Tween." It is a technique for speeding up animation. Here are the steps to creating a classic tween:
1. Draw something on the screen and fill it with a color. You may also import an image from the Internet.

2. Select your entire image with the selection tool.

3. Click on Modify > Convert to Symbol > Graphic.

4. Drag your image to one side of the screen.

5. Look at your timeline. Click inside frame 20 (or any point along the timeline).

6. Click on Insert > Timeline > Keyframe.

7. Drag your image to the other side of the screen.

8. Click anywhere in between frames 1 to 30. Inside the gray area.

9. Click Insert > Classic Tween.

Your timeline should turn blue and have an arrow running through it. Test your movie. Your image should move across the screen. Use a combination of blank keyframes, keyframes, and symbols to create a short story. Put the background and each character in separate layers. You must have at least five layers in this project. Use everything you have been learning in Flash to pull this together.

Here is a video I made that shows how to make symbols and animate them in Flash: video
