Textbook Assignment (Chapter Three: Editing)



This assignment covers chapter 3 in your textbook. As you read the chapter, answer the following questions in the right side of your notebook:

  1. How was editing performed in the early days?

  2. What is meant by the expression, "classical Hollywood cinema"?

  3. Describe the difference between a shot, a scene, and a sequence.

  4. What is the term used to describe how shots are joined together?

  5. Describe the six most commonly used transitions.

  6. What is a superimposition?

  7. Give an example of "filmic metaphor."

  8. What is a reaction shot?

  9. What is parallel editing?

  10. What is the difference between "fast" and "slow" cutting?

  11. What is a montage?

  12. Use the left-side of your notebook to cut-out and paste the handout of pictures from magazines, Internet, or newspapers to form a short story with captions/dialog. Make it big! Make it colorful! Fill up at least two pages!
