Textbook Assignment (Chapter Three: Editing)
This assignment covers chapter 3 in your textbook. As you read the chapter, answer the following questions in the right side of your notebook:
- How was editing performed in the early days?
- What is meant by the expression, "classical Hollywood cinema"?
- Describe the difference between a shot, a scene, and a sequence.
- What is the term used to describe how shots are joined together?
- Describe the six most commonly used transitions.
- What is a superimposition?
- Give an example of "filmic metaphor."
- What is a reaction shot?
- What is parallel editing?
- What is the difference between "fast" and "slow" cutting?
- What is a montage?
- Use the left-side of your notebook to cut-out and paste the handout of pictures from magazines, Internet, or newspapers to form a short story with captions/dialog. Make it big! Make it colorful! Fill up at least two pages!
