Objectives:

  • Recognize the relationship between camera angles and dialogue

  • Identify the line of axis in shooting dialogue.

  • Set up a camera shoot to record a script of dialogue.

Shooting Dialogue with the 180 Degree Rule


  1. Start by having your two actors memorize their lines so that they can repeat the dialogue several times without needing to look down at their scripts. Here is a sample script you may use.

  2. Shoot the conversation as follows:
    1. a wide two shot (showing both actors at the same time).
    2. an over the shoulder medium shot all the way through the script separately for each actor.
    3. Close ups of each actor's face all through the script.
