The Public Service Announcement Project: Assessing My Own Learning

Step One: What Makes a Grade A Public Service Announcement?

Working in your video production PSA team, make a list of the top five or six things that you would need to see in a grade A PSA. Think about the process of making a video from start to finish. Carefully describe how each important aspect of making a video should look in a grade A project. Use the poster board to record your answers.

Step Two: Break it down to grade B,C,D

Repeat the above process for the other letter grades. Also record your results on the poster board.

Step Three: Bring your poster board up to the front of the class and explain what you devised. Justify your choices.

Step Four: Create an Online Rubric as a group

Go to this website: rubistar.4teachers.org and sign up for a free account. I will walk you through the process.

Together with your group, create a rubric using what you came up with on your poster board. You can use some of the website's suggestions and supply your own information as well. When you are done, print it out.

Step Five: We will watch some examples of PSAs and each group will grade them using their newly developed rubrics.

Step Six: Let's talk, discuss, and vote on a rubric as a group that we can use for the development of our PSA projects.
